But not just any watch, she got me a Samsung Galaxy Gear! Now I know there are lots of debates about wearable’s and just exactly what their purpose is. I must admit that my primary thoughts on getting one is that they do look cool! I have a growing collection of watches and a geek watch seemed like it would fit in well.
Since putting it on a month ago I just can't seem to be parted from it (please remember I could wear a watch every day for over a fortnight and not wear the same one twice). The features of the Samsung Galaxy Gear are simple and so useful, I love the speaker embedded in the strap allowing for hands-free calls. I find Bluetooth headsets uncomfortable and inconvenient as I never seem to have it when I need it. The clever touch screen display is easy to get the hang of and puts everything a maximum of a few swipes away.
It pops up notifications on screen, as they come in, with a little ping if you like, so that you can see at a glance if something important has come in or if you have yet another email about your PPI claim! It is straight forward to customise to your own tastes and preferences and there is quite a lot of apps and customisations available, a good chunk of it for free too.
I have put Solitaire and a Pac Man game onto it and they are easy enough to use and will help kill a few spare moments, the built in pedometer is handy and it's good to have my schedule always to hand. The battery life is not bad, a full day's use zaps it by about 50% and it is very quick to charge back up.
It has an integrated camera, which if I am honest I have not yet found a use for, but I have only had it a month.
So I have a watch I can talk to and a black car that talks to me (via the integrated Sat Nav), so my childhood dream of becoming Michael Knight is getting ever closer!
